Is gold plastic silverware real gold?
No. It’s sturdy food-grade plastic with a metallic gold finish, with no real gold or gold plating. It looks like gold flatware on the table at a fraction of the cost. Because the finish is metallic, never put it in the microwave. If you’re reusing it, hand-wash it gently so the finish lasts.
Is plastic silverware reusable?
Ours is, as long as you hand-wash it. Wash it in warm, soapy water, dry it and store it in a bag. Don’t put it in the dishwasher, where heat can warp the handles and dull the finish. Throw away any piece that’s bent, cracked or has rough edges.
How do you set a table with silverware?
Forks go to the left of the plate, and the knife goes to the right with the blade facing the plate. The spoon goes to the right of the knife. Work from the outside in, so the utensil for the first course sits farthest from the plate. A dessert fork or spoon can lie horizontally above the plate.
What's the difference between silverware, cutlery and flatware?
They’re the same thing. Silverware is the everyday American word, cutlery is more common in the UK, and flatware is the trade term for forks, spoons and knives. “Plastic silverware” just means plastic forks, spoons and knives, often with a metallic finish that looks like the real thing.

How to choose plastic silverware
Silverware is the part of the table guests actually pick up, so it’s worth getting right. Our plastic forks, knives and spoons are around 7 to 8 inches long, close to the size of real flatware. They come in gold, silver, rose gold, clear and colors, with polished, hammered, glitter and baroque finishes.
Sets or single utensils?
Plastic cutlery sets contain equal numbers of forks, knives and spoons, so one box covers complete place settings, from small parties up to 200 guests. Forks, spoons and knives sold separately are for topping up, such as an extra fork per guest for cake or spoons for a soup course. Pre-rolled sets wrap a fork, knife and spoon in a napkin, ready to hand out at a buffet.
Match the finish to the table
Gold is the most popular choice for weddings and works with white, black or blush plates. Silver suits cooler palettes like navy, gray and white, and rose gold suits showers. Hammered and baroque handles look like vintage flatware. Glitter is the fun option for birthdays and holidays.
Care
All of our plastic silverware is hand-wash only. If you want to reuse it, wash it in warm, soapy water, dry it and store it in a bag so the finish stays clean. Keep it out of the dishwasher and microwave.
